Monolith

Collection: Monolith

Monolith brings fragrance into the room through stone, wood, smoke and scent. The collection includes Awaseru, our sandstone fragrance diffuser, alongside Japanese incense and Extrait de Parfum created to be lived with as much as they are used. Objects with weight, material and presence—made for the rooms that belong to you.

An exploration of landscape, material, and the moments that remain with us.
Every object has a history. This is ours.

The color we carry.

Terracotta earth after rainfall. Ochre beneath the sun. Sand so pale it recalls salt.

The colors of Monolith take their references from Curaçao and Anguilla, places connected through the family lineage of our Creative Director.

In Curaçao, the ground changes its appearance when the rain comes. Across Anguilla, the exceptionally fine, pale sand remains a subject of family conversation.

These observations became the starting point for Awaseru.

Water, rendered in stone.

Awaseru takes its form from a raindrop at the moment it touches the earth.

Its sandstone body rests upon black walnut, bringing together the landscapes of Caribbean family heritage and the country of our Creative Director's birth.

The porous stone accepts fragrance oil and releases its scent into the surrounding room without electricity.

Three sandstone colors articulate the collection:

Kórà — Terracotta, recalling Curaçao's reddish earth.

Solo — Ochre, after the Papiamentu word for sun.

Salù — Pale sand, referencing Anguilla's sand and history of salt production.

Awaseru belongs to an edition of 50.

Another reading of fragrance.

A linguistic coincidence opened another direction for Monolith.

The name Awaseru, drawn from an expression associated with rainfall in Papiamentu, also exists in Japanese. This shared spelling prompted an exploration of Japan's incense tradition.

Working with a manufacturer in Japan, Kas di Kos developed coreless sandalwood incense.

As the incense burns, fragrance passes through the room. Its material diminishes, leaving ash and the memory of its presence.

A different method of diffusion, introduced into the same collection.

  • Three Compositions

  • Midnight Swim

  • Affogato

  • Overcast

Fragrance has an extraordinary relationship with memory. A particular smell can recall an afternoon, a room, or a person long after the occasion has passed. The three compositions of Monolith began with separate observations, each interpreted through scent.

A memory after dark. An empty beach in Curaçao. Two people entering the sea after midnight. Moonlight on the water. The memory behind Midnight Swim is one of closeness and spontaneity, particularly the scent of saltwater remaining on another person's skin. An interpretation of the sea after dark, and of a moment that never required an audience.

A rather delicious interpretation. Inspired by the Italian combination of espresso and gelato, Affogato developed through repeated fragrance trials and an unexpected compliment.

Explore Affogato

An overcast sky bathes the earth in perfectly diffused light.

There is a particular smell that announces approaching rainfall, familiar enough to be recognized and distinctive enough to remain in memory.

Overcast takes its inspiration from this interval. Imagine it in a home library, near tall windows, while clouds gather outside.
